Intensive Care Unit - ICU | Kuwait Teaching Hospital

Introduction of Department:

A new medical ICU is established in Kuwait Teaching Hospital in January 2014. It provides medical care to patients with acute / acute on chronic: medical problems. We have 4 bedded ICU with 3 beds in dialysis section (Total of 7). About 15 to 20 critical ill patients are admitted and treated in ICU every month. Similarly, with average of 50 patients with renal problems are provided, services of hemodialysis in a month. ICU is equipped with latest sophisticated machines i.e. ventilator, cardiac-monitors, pulse-oximeters, defibrillatoretc. Facilities for work up of patients are available in the form of Radiology (U/S, X-rays, CT, MRI). Laboratory (fully equipped) are to provide all relative investigations. ABGs facilities are also available in ICU round the clock for hospital patients. Experienced nurses, paramedical staff are available. The unit is supervised by AP incharge. Medical Officers, HO's are on duty round the clock to look after the admitted patients in ICU. The unit provides hemodialysis plasmapheresis services to needy patients, whenever it is required.

Message from the Head of Department:

Intensive care medicine (critical care medicine) is concerned predominantly with the management of patients with acute life threatening conditions within the specialized environment of intensive care unit. Our ICU is equipped with cardiac-monitors, pulse-oximeters, defibrillator, ventilators, crash cart, suction machine, infusion pump, ABG’s, hemodialysis and plasmapheresis machines etc.
It provides opportunity to the undergraduate students of PMC to see/learn the management to critical ill patients during their assignments in ICU.
The unit provides excellent opportunity to MOs, HOs, paramedics, Nurses working in ICU to enhance their experience and knowledge and also to train themselves to do special procedures done in the ward i.e. intubations, airway management ,CVPs, double lumen catheter insertion, L.P in a difficult cases and CPR etc.
It also provides facilities to learn when and how to use the sophisticated machines used in ICU.
