Introduction of Department:

   The department of ophthalmolgy deals with the diseases of the eyes in adults as well as children. It is a fully equipped with all the diagnostic / teaching tools like fixed / portable slit lamp, autorefractometer, A and B Scan ultrasound, keratometer, IOL calculator, Direct / Indirect ophthalmoscopes, Retinoscopes, a demonstration room with complete teaching facilities.
It has fully equipped operation theater for all types of major and minor surgeries under general as well as local anesthesia. The indoor unit has 20 beds with ample nursing staff.
The teaching faculty consist of a professor, two associate professors, two senior registrars, a medical officer and two auxiliry staff members.

Role of Department:

   The department is offering uniqe diagnostic services at its outpatient clinic for an average of 30-50 patients daily. Apart from full time emergency cover regular surgeries are done in operation theater three times a week. Cataract surgery is done in conventional way as on phacoemulsification method (suture less) with lens implant. Other surgeries are also offered on nominal charges.

Message from the Head of Department:

   We want to upgrade the facilities for future training of postgraduate trainees, Sub speciality training facilities for PG's. Very soon lasers will be added to the facilities.
